Split Granite Table

Split granite slab table, mounted on steel willow branches.

Description

A slab of split granite, mounted on spring willow branches. The idea first came from seeing large branches suspended on top of a large bush of willow branches. I was taken by the deep red branches and the resiliency of a large number of small pieces of wood supporting something many times its own weight.

The slab is found material from a granite countertop sink cut out. I like to accent the natural edge and the split in the stone. It added to the precarious nature of the finished piece. The branches are made from steel welding rod and found steel tubing, mounted in such a way that while the table will wiggle it is incredibly stable.
